Leadership Communication

Take a deep dive into the fundamentals of designing and articulating an effective narrative. A compelling narrative helps you to quickly establish rapport, build trust, and make an emotional connection that clearly communicates your message. A compelling narrative is key to a successful business plan, recommendation, investor pitch, and sale. The ability to craft and deliver a compelling narrative is essential for success whether you're seeking internal buy-in, presenting to investors, driving sales or leading change.

This course provides practical approaches, proven frameworks and opportunities to develop and present a series of narratives that will equip you to better communicate in the workplace. Participants will engage with peers from across a range of industries, learn from expert facilitators, and get feedback from business communication experts and Globe and Mail journalists in activity filled sessions designed to build both competence and confidence in communication. Participants will benefit from lessons from the The Globe and Mail newsroom and business leaders on building a narrative that engages audiences and has maximum impact.

Candace Allixendir is Vice President, Communications and Community Investment at Element Fleet, where she leads the development and execution of integrated communication strategies that engage employees, clients, partners, and the broader community – all in alignment with Element’s Purpose and long-term business objectives.

 

With two decades of experience in communications leadership, Candace plays a critical role in shaping Element’s strategic narrative in partnership with the Executive Committee. Before joining Element, Candace held increasingly senior communications roles at BMO Financial Group, where she successfully launched the bank’s Purpose and led internal communications during leadership transitions. Earlier in her career, she worked in the pharmaceutical industry with Wyeth, where she built a strong foundation in stakeholder alignment, cross-functional change, and employee engagement.

 

Candace is recognized as a transformative leader with expertise in navigating complex change through purpose-driven storytelling and culture-first strategies. She has led organization-wide transformation initiatives across industries, including CEO transitions, enterprise rebranding, acquisitions, and large-scale cultural shifts - ensuring stakeholders remain informed, inspired, and aligned throughout the journey. In addition to her communications leadership, Candace oversees Element’s global community investment strategy, embedding social impact and corporate responsibility into the organization’s culture.

 

Beyond her professional contributions, Candace is a passionate mentor, a trusted advisor to C-suite leaders, an active volunteer, and a sought-after speaker on topics including change communications, leadership alignment, employee engagement, and the evolving intersection of brand, culture, and impact.

Erfan Kazemi

 

Chief Financial Officer,

As a former Senior Manager with PricewaterhouseCoopers, Erfan Kazemi brings years of experience to the Sandstorm team. Since assuming the role of Chief Financial Officer in 2011, he has helped raise over a billion dollars in equity and debt financing to grow the company. Plus, on top of handling financial reporting and compliance matters, Erfan plays a critical role in the success of Sandstorm’s royalty investments through his responsibilities on the corporate development front and the company’s investment committee.

He is a Chartered Professional Accountant (CA), a Chartered Financial Analyst charterholder, and a graduate of the University of British Columbia with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics.


Erfan is not without his share of accolades and has been recognized as one of Canada’s Top 40 under 40, named by the Globe and Mail as one of Canada’s 50 best executives, awarded Business in Vancouver’s CFO of the Year, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of British Columbia’s Early Achievement Award and Community Service Award, and the University of British Columbia Alumni Association’s Outstanding Student of the Year Award.

She was instrumental in leading the company through its sale and transition to Nasdaq in 2016. Navaid Mansuri

Navaid Mansuri is Dialogue’s Chief Financial Officer. Since joining the company in 2019, he led its IPO on the TSX in 2020 and its subsequent acquisition by Sun Life in 2023. During his tenure, he has also played an integral role in bringing Dialogue to sustainable profitability. Prior to joining Dialogue, Navaid was Chief Financial Officer at Just for Laughs and has held roles in finance, marketing and business transformation at Rogers Media and Bell Canada. Mr. Mansuri is a Chartered Professional Accountant, starting his career at Deloitte after earning a Bachelor of Commerce from McGill University.

Stella Yeung

Stella Yeung is an award-winning senior technology executive with extensive experience in the financial services industry. As Senior Vice President & Chief Information Officer, she leads the engineering group responsible for technology management across several divisions at Scotiabank, including Global Banking and Markets, Global Compliance, Global Finance and Treasury, Global Human Resources, and Global Risk Management, as well as Anti-Money Laundering.

 

Before joining Scotiabank in 2013, Stella held progressively senior roles at BMO Financial Group, supporting the technology needs of Enterprise Risk and Portfolio Management, Investment and Corporate Banking, and Institutional Equities. She also held leadership positions at TSX Group and previously ran her own consulting practice in Boston and Frankfurt.

 

Born and raised in Hong Kong, Stella came to Canada to study and graduated with a degree in Computer Science and Mathematics from the University of Toronto.

Lynn Langrock is the Global Vice President, People at Bimbo QSR, a division of Grupo Bimbo.  In her current role, which she assumed in 2021, she has overall leadership of pension and benefits, compensation, labour relations, safety & wellness, leadership & development, internal communications and corporate affairs. 

Prior to Bimbo QSR, Lynn led the Human Relations and Corporate Affairs function for Bimbo Canada, where she drove the company’s COVID-19 response, leading her to be named among Canada’s 50 Best Executives in the Globe & Mail’s Report on Business Best Executive Awards.

Chuck We

Chuck We is the Executive Vice President of Pacific Northwest and Western Canada at Hudson Pacific Properties. He is responsible for office portfolio operations in Vancouver and Seattle which includes the 1.45 million square foot Bentall Centre in Vancouver and 2.7 million square feet of Class A office space in Greater Seattle. Prior to joining Hudson Pacific in 2019, Chuck served 20 years and was the city head and Vice President for Oxford Properties Group in Vancouver. He currently sits on the boards of Destination Vancouver and the Downtown Vancouver Business Improvement Association (DTVan), is a Past President of the Vancouver Chapter of NAIOP and served on the board of the ULI British Columbia District Council. Chuck holds a Master of Business Administration degree and a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Finance, Marketing, and International Business from Simon Fraser University.

Eric Myles

Eric Myles

Eric Myles is the Chief Sport Officer at the Canadian Olympic Committee. In this role, he is responsible for the Games, Sport System relations in Canada and International Relations for Sport. He actively engages and collaborates with active and alumni Olympians.

Eric brings a wealth of invaluable experience in the sport, education and health industry. This includes 12 years as Co-Founder and Executive Director of Québec en Forme, an organization that mobilizes people from across Québec to engage in active living and healthy eating, an essential component of the development of the province’s youth.

In addition to his work with Québec en Forme, Eric spent 18 years in various roles with l’Académie les Estacades, including Director of the programme Sport-études. He also helped found the Complexe sportif Alphonse-Desjardins in Trois-Rivières, Quebec.

Eric has an extensive background in canoe/kayak sprint, having competed and coached internationally.

Robyn Doolittle is an award-winning journalist and author. She is The Globe and Mail's corporate law reporter, and a former long-time member of the newspaper's investigative team. Since coming to The Globe in 2014, she has investigated political and business corruption, the Hockey Canada scandal and Canada’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Her “Unfounded” series, which exposed the ways that Canadian police services mishandle sexual assault cases, prompted a national overhaul of policy, training and practices around sexual violence.

Doolittle’s other notable projects include the “Power Gap”, an investigation of gender inequities in the workforce, and “Secret Canada,” which examines Canada’s broken freedom of information system.

She is the author of two books, “Had It Coming – What’s Fair In The Age of #MeToo?,” which was shortlisted for the RBC Taylor Prize for non-fiction, and “Crazy Town: The Rob Ford Story,” both of which were national bestsellers.

Ali Hoss is the Chief Sustainability Officer at Triovest responsible for advancing sustainability performance, strategic growth, and technology innovation for a portfolio of $12B of commercial real estate in Canada. As a distinguished winner of the Globe and Mail Best Executive Award in Sustainability & DEI in 2024 and Canada Energy Innovator Award by the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE) in 2020, Ali works in close partnership with some of the largest Pension Plans in Canada crafting and implementing strategies that balance financial goals with environmental sustainability, fostering value creation and asset resilience while mitigating potential risks. Before his tenure at Triovest, Ali's leadership was instrumental in shaping the Canada Infrastructure Bank’s (CIB) $1B public building retrofit financing program. He was also the architect behind the City of Toronto's ambitious policy strategy aimed at achieving net-zero emissions in existing buildings by the year 2050. In 2016, Ali led the launch of North America's first performance-based energy conservation incentive program, the IESO’s Energy Performance Program, supported by a $25 million of investment to promote province-wide energy consumption and GHG emissions reductions. Ali is a professional engineer and holds a PhD in Mechanical Engineering. He is an author of book chapters and articles in peer-reviewed scientific journals, a sought-after public speaker, and a guest lecturer at universities.

Before STEMCELL, Andrew spent 7 years at General Electric, ending by leading M&A/Business Development for GE Healthcare’s Europe, Middle East, and Africa business and GE Healthcare’s global Life Sciences business based in London. Andrew is an advisor to Aspect Biosystems and 5AM Venture Capital and sits on the Board of Directors of Karius. Colleen Moorehead is an accomplished business leader – she was a two-time public company Canadian CEO, and two-time public board chair (DND-T, and lead director SUM-T) of technology businesses. Formerly the Chief Client Officer at Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt LLP, Colleen retired in January 2024. Over her career, she has held a variety of corporate leadership positions and has a deep understanding of business development strategy in the services sector. She is an active participant in the early-stage ecosystem as Chair of The51 (VC), Board of Advisors for iNovia Capital (VC) and VERTU Capital (PE), and a mentor for the CDL Scale Up program at Haskayne Business school in Calgary.

She has extensive experience in founder-led companies, with a background in financial technology, capital markets and legal, having chaired both Governance and Compensation committees. In her role as Chair, she has built significant experience in shareholder engagement.

Over the course of her career, Colleen has been recognized and honoured with several awards including CVCA Ted Anderson Community Leadership Award in 2024, the Women of Distinction Award for 2020 and 2021 by YWCA Toronto, the 2021 Trailblazer Award by the Women’s College Hospital Foundation, 2015 Catalyst Canada Honours Champion – Business Leader, and the Business Builder 2010 Award by the Canadian Marketing Hall of Legends.

Ilda Dinis is Chief Communications & Marketing officer for Element Fleet Management, a global leader in fleet management. With over 20 years of experience, she is a passionate customer experience advocate and champion of building culture, brands and reputation through integrated, creative and engaging marketing and communications strategies. Prior to joining the insurance and fleet management industries, she worked in the non-profit sector and credits this experience for her resourcefulness, perseverance, and “make it happen” mindset.  

She holds an Honours Bachelor of Arts from the University of Toronto and a joint Master of Communication Management from Syracuse and McMaster Universities.

David Parkinson is Deputy Head of Newsroom Development for The Globe and Mail. He covered business and financial markets from 1990 until early 2024, when he started his current position, and has been with The Globe and Mail since 2000. In his years with The Globe, he has been an energy reporter, an editorial writer, a financial-markets columnist, and spent two years as Investment Editor. He was an economics columnist/reporter from 2014 to 2024. A Calgary native, he holds an undergraduate degree in Psychology and Sociology from the University of Calgary, and Masters in Journalism from the University of Western Ontario. He received a Southam Fellowship from the University of Toronto in 1999-2000, studying international political economics.
